Throughout September, the deluxe St Ermin’s Hotel, Westminster celebrates its annual honey month, to coincide with the harvest of honey collected from its resident 350,000 Buckfast bees. As well as creatively utilising the St. Ermin’s delicious honey, Alexander makes the most of the hotel’s thriving new Roof Kitchen Garden, which like its bees, produces fantastic fresh produce – such as the tomatoes and herbs showcased in the new Honey Afternoon Tea. Available from £32pp the menu features inspired savoury dishes including honey glazed gammon sandwiches with St Ermin’s tomatoes, josper oven roasted vegetable tart with honey and thyme – as well as sweet delicacies, such as glazed carrot and honey cake, passionfruit mousse with honey glazed popcorn and honey and lemon posset with candied ginger. If it’s a family occasion, kids can enjoy a Buzzy Bees tea featuring such bee-licious treats as, honey roast ham sandwiches, black and yellow Battenberg cake, chocolate brownies with honeycomb and mini bee macarons – at £15pp.

In its continued efforts to support urban beekeeping and encourage sustainability in the city; the St. Ermin’s is once again offering urban beekeeping taster workshops with top beekeeper Camilla Goddard. Taking place on the 17th September and 1st October, the course is a great way for participants to get a real interactive experience handling bees, managing their hives and collecting raw honey. The 2.5-hour workshops outline the complexities of bee society; highlight the close relationship between bees and flowers and give guidance on what to plant, when and where and how best to site hives in gardens or allotments.

Visitors can head to the third floor Bee Terrace – home to London’s only Bee & Bee, to watch the colony in action (behind the glass viewing platform), and see what all of the buzz is about! With easy access to some of London’s most prestigious gardens, collecting pollen from the likes of Buckingham Palace and St James’ Park, the St. Ermin’s Buckfast bees produce approximately 25lb of delectable honey each year – inspiring it’s kitchen to create outstanding seasonal menus.
