Above: Call The Office Bar&CLub

Does Goo Goo Dolls, Shatkins, Radiohead, Matchbox Twenty, Blink 182, and Nickelback ring a bell? Yes, they are famous bands signed with international record labels. They’ve got their world tours and live performances in arenas, stadiums and concert halls. But where do bands like them start?

Down the corner of York and Clarence Street, a bar in the 1980’s was opened and it was named “Call the Office.”

The name originated during a time when pagers were the primary means of communication – when husbands were paged to “call the office” when their wives did the same.

They hardly maintained the place and its tainted green and black walls. The wooden floors had been blackened by years of people stepping on it and spilling beer so many times over. Surprisingly, the place is not as wild as one would think, but the people do have a sense of individuality. Though it isn’t much, this place is still the welcome doormat for bands that go places.

Indy bands like playing in Call the Office not because of how the place looks like, but because of the people that party there every night. They come to have a good time. They come for live original music.
